Civil Consciousness Club: diplomacy in Lithuania and Ukraine

UkreateHub, in partnership with UYGL, a Ukrainian youth group in Lithuania, recently introduced a new project known as the “Civil Consciousness Club.” This initiative aims to bring together Ukrainian and Lithuanian youth interested in personal development through the exploration of literature, engaging discussions, interactions with notable figures, and the learning of current issues.

At the club’s gatherings, participants have the chance to broaden their knowledge, engage in conversations ranging from cultural to political topics, and delve into matters of identity, history, and society through a literary lens.

The inaugural session featured Algirdas Kumža, a multifaceted individual known for his roles as a diplomat, climber, and writer. In a cozy setting, club members had the privilege of conversing with Kumža, gaining insights into his life and perspectives, while also sharing their own ideas and stories.

Algirdas Kumža, drawing from his diverse experiences, sparked dynamic conversations and provided inspiration to the attendees. He shared how his adventures in mountaineering, involvement in the arts, and engagement in political spheres have shaped his worldview. Among the highlights of the meeting was a reading from his book “Oranžinis Romanas,” which delves into Ukraine’s narrative during the Orange Revolution, referencing a pivotal conference in Kyiv in April 2006 focusing on Ukraine’s European trajectory.

The “Civil Consciousness Club” represents a valuable platform for Ukrainian youth residing in Lithuania to deepen their understanding of their heritage, traditions, and past, while also having the opportunity to connect with fascinating individuals and exchange perspectives and narratives.
